Healthy Schools Week

DASH BC is excited to kick off this school year with the first annual Healthy Schools Week! From October 5th – 9th, 2015, join us in inviting school communities to take action to ensure all students are healthy, engaged, and connected at school. Research has shown students who feel connected at school do better academically and are healthier.

Each day during Healthy Schools Week, we will be focusing on a different aspect of healthy living and sharing resources, stories, grant opportunities, and more!

At A GlanceFocus Areas by Day:

Monday, Oct. 5th – Take action on addressing healthy living, we will be kicking off the week by discussing the benefits of healthy living in school communities

Tuesday, Oct. 6th – Healthy Schools Network grant opportunities become available

Wednesday October 7th – The importance of physical activity to health and wellbeing and the many benefits of active transportation

Thursday October 8th – Broad aspects of health and wellbeing such as school connectedness and food literacy

Friday October 9th – Everyday practices for positive mental health (October 10th is World Mental Health Day)

Week-Long and Special Events:

Walk and Wheel to School – Students, parents, school staff, and community members will be walking or wheeling to school all week! Registration to receive resources and promotional materials closes September 25th.

School Connectedness Film Festival – We will be showcasing a different school connectedness grantee video each day.

Social Media Contest – For every re-tweet, share, or use of our hashtag #HSW15 on social media, you will be entered into a daily draw for fun prizes, as well as the grand prize draw to be featured in an upcoming edition of the Healthy Schools BC Newsletter and free registration to our 2016 Healthy Schools Leadership Symposium!

What can you do at your school to celebrate Healthy Schools Week?

  • Share your resources, stories, and grants through social media
  • Share pictures and videos of your students participating in a healthy living activity
  • Register your school for Walk and Wheel to School
  • Follow us on our social media channels and sharing our posts and tweets using #HSW15
  • Talk to your students and colleagues about ideas for healthy school initiatives for the year and making a plan
