New Hazelton Elementary uses iPads to Document their Environmental Footprint

In the Spring of 2020, New Hazelton Elementary School from Northern B. C., was one of four schools to win a set of 10 iPads from DASH. The school reported that they arrived just in time to support student learning from a distance due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now that many students have returned to in-person instruction, the iPads are being integrated into student work. Students use them in the school garden, the recycling program, and learning about cultural practices. The iPads are helping students to document their work reducing their environmental footprint and celebrating the environment.

Students are excited to try out a variety of apps including iMovie, Book Creator, Shadow Puppet, Popplet, Skitch and Pages. “The iPads provide the opportunity to record and support student learning in an engaging format that acknowledges their energy and enthusiasm”, commented an educator at the school.
